Screveton Classroom
Harby, Nottinghamshire
RIBA STAGE: 2 - CONCEPT DESIGN
2011
Screveton Classroom is a highly unique project, involving Normal Strawbales, Jumbo Bales, and Rammed Earth in its construction. The design benefits from passive solar gain through effective building orientation and placement upon a hill - inviting beams of light to hit the thick rammed earth wall, heating up the hall within for hours to come. The involvement of both Normal and Jumbo Bales was a successful and pioneering development of a popular green building material.
Environmental Aspects: Strawbale Construction, Rammed Earth Construction, Passive Solar Gain, High Thermal Mass, Local Timber, Green Sedum Roof.
