As part of our Growing Up Green Project, this week, Hill Holt Wood hosted students from the Humanitarian Architecture Society of the University of Sheffield. Busy month of May
The design team hosted a workshop teaching strawbale construction. With people from the Leeds Coppice Workers, Glue Collective, Whistlewood Common and Nene Coppicing & Crafts, they have been shown the fundamentals of straw bale construction! The Summerhouse went to site at the start of the month with rammed tire foundations and built using timber from local woodlands that Hill Holt Wood manage. Wednesday and Thursday marked Chris and Bex's time to represent the business at Design:HHW's annual trip to Ecobuild, housed in the excel centre in London. Hill Holt Wood Hosts its first Straw Bale Construction Qualification!
On the week of the 13th - 17th of February Design:HHW ran a 5 day course aimed at teaching Straw Bale construction to chosen learners of Hill Holt Wood. The general make up of the course allowed the pupils to work within a classroom environment, involving presentations and model making activities and practical based tasks to fully understand the stages of Straw Bale construction. By the end of the week the aim was to create a Small 5m2 Straw Bale structure with enough space
